AVENIDA MUSIKA (Marching Brass Band Competition)
A music-avenue performance cum competition where various marching brass bands, either school based or community based, perform in three (3) performance contexts: 1. Marching Brass Band in Street Parade; 2. Symphonic Pieces in specified venue; and 3. Brass-Band Showdown at the New City Hall Main Ground.

Categories:
Each of the following categories are judged separately
a) Brass Band Serenata: Symphonic Band Pieces Performance in amphitheatre
b) Brass Band Showdown: Brass Band pieces performed in open spaces and interpreted with moving dance vignettes or employing creative theatrical devises
c) Marching Brass Band: Brass Band performance in a street parade context incorporating fancy drill-in-motion
Participation: Participation in the Street Parade that opens the competition is required for all participating Brass Bands. (Failure to join the Street Parade may be considered as a valid ground for disqualification of the contestant to join in the other two categories)
Any participating Brass Band can compete in all categories or may opt to join either only in Symphonic Performance or only in Brass Band Showdown.
Requirements:
1) Submission of Application Form together with the list of Band members or players
2) Members of the Marching Brass Bands, school-based or community-based, should be Filipino Citizens;
3) Representative of Brass Band must attend the Final Briefing session held a day before the competition or on February 24, 2012.
Mechanics
Each category has different requirements and mechanics of performance. The following rules and mechanics operate and must be observed by the participants in each of the category
A. MARCHING BRASS BAND IN STREET PARADE
1) Minimum number of 25 instrumentalists / players is required during the parade
2) No limits as to the number of majorettes and flag bearers who can join in the parade
3) Three judges are stationed separately in designated areas that are strategic for judging
4) The participating Brass Bands may perform a moving fancy drill in every station.
5) Criteria for choosing the Best Marching Brass Band are as follows:
| Musicality, Variations and Creative Arrangement: | 35 percent |
| Harmony and Creativity in Cadences / Fancy Drill: | 30 percent |
| Discipline, Unity and Decorum in Execution: | 35 percent |
| Total: | 100 percent |
B. SERENATA (Symphonic Band Sundown Concert)
1) Minimum number of 25 instrumentalists/players.
2) Majorettes or flag bearers are discouraged to join this category
3) Each Band is required to play three (3) symphonic pieces, as follows:
- 3.1 One “Overture” symphonic piece
3.2 A symphonic piece composed and arranged by Filipino musicians
3.2 A classic symphonic piece by Foreign Artist/s
5) Total performance time for the three pieces should not be less than 25 minutes but must not exceed 30 minutes
7) The performance of the symphonic pieces must be highlighted or rendered with series of solo and/or duet instrumentation that are played anywhere in the performance.
8) The criteria for judging the Symphonic Performance are as follows:

| Mastery, Coordination or Ensemble work: | 40 points |
| Discipline and Decorum | 10 points |
| Total: | 100 points |
C. BRASS BAND SHOWDOWN
1) Minimum number of 50 instrumentalists / players
2) Minimum of 20 movers, majorettes or flag bearers
3) Crews and stage hands are not counted as part of the performers
4) Minimum performance time is 10 minutes
5) Maximum performance time is 15 minutes
6) Employment of dangerous stunts and acrobatic movements are discouraged.
7) Groups who desire to perform dangerous stunts should use safety precautions and equipments
8) Competing contingents are required to sign waivers, signifying that they assume full responsibility of any consequences and/or untoward accidents as a result of their performances.
9) The criteria for judging are as follows:

| Mastery, Coordination and Unity in Execution | 35 percent |
| Singularity and Appropriateness of Movement & Visual Design | 30 percent |
| Total | 100 percent |
Only the conductor who conducts a team and who joins in both categories of symphonic and band showdown will be judged for the best conductor special award according to the following criteria:
| Baton Control: creativity & variation: | 35 points |
| Posture and confidence | 30 points |
| Diversity of Musical Instruments handled | 30 points |
| Total | 100 points |
5) Conductors and singers are required to wear formal attire.
6) Submission of four (4) copies of their notated sidepiece is required and received by the Secretariat not later than one day before the competition
Evaluation: The performance of each choral group is evaluated according to the following criteria:
| Tonal Quality (flexibility of voice, intonation & range) | 40% |
| Harmony (blending & balance, phrasing) | 30% |
| Mastery (dynamics, technique, interpretation) | 20% |
| Deportment (general appearance, discipline & uniform) | 10% |
| TOTAL | 100% |
The allocation of points will be based on the following:
Contest Piece - 70%
Side Piece - 30%
Total - 100%
Prizes: The following cash prizes for the winning singing groups are at stake:
First Prize: P 60,000.00 and Trophy
Second Prize: P 30,000.00 and certificate
Third Prize: P 20,000.00 and certificate
HIMIG HANDOG II: Quartet Competition 2011
A one musical performance of four (4) different yet harmonized voices interpreting a range of musical pieces in a concert format competed by various singing ambassadors of the country.
Date of Competition February 19, 2011, (Time: 6 PM TBC)
Participation:
1) Open to all school and/or community based singing groups;
2) A competing group is composed of four (4) singers (all male or all female or mixed genders) with ages ranging from 16 years old and above.
3) Each group is allowed to have at most two (2) instrumentalists for accompaniment
4) The Festival Artistic Director shall help curate the performance-concert
Requirements:
1) Competing groups should render two (2) songs in any genre and/or language.
2) The songs can be performed with accompaniment or in straight acapela.
3) Performance time should not exceed ten (10) minutes including entrance and exit.
(A deduction of two (2) points in excess of every minute or fraction of a minute.)
Evaluation: The criteria for judging are as follows
