MUSIKAHAN SA BARANGAY aka “SEARCH FOR BARANGAY’S AMAZING TALENTS
(Mamugna-ong Ani sa Nakigda-it nga Katilingban)

 

This event attempts to democratize access to Culture and the Arts, where the residents of the component Barangays in the City of Tagum organize themselves to pursue of a community-based cultural action and, under the auspices of the Office of the Barangay Council headed by the Punong Barangay, shall showcase the best of their talents as well as manifest their cooperation and unified action in the process of asserting their “sense of pride of place”.

Guided by the theme “Our Creative Harvest, Our Cohesive Community”, and propelled by the adage --- “the barangay that sings together is united forever” --- each component barangay shall conduct their own search for the most outstanding barangay talents who prove their best in the following music competitions:

  • Barangay’s Pop Sensation (Filipino pop song solo performer, either male or female)
  • Barangay’s Novelty Performers (Small group of male or female interpreters of novelty songs)
  • Barangay’s Singing Idols (A rendition of a medley of standard songs by the elected Barangay Officials)
  • Barangay’s Voices Rising (A mixed-choir performing Pinoy Hit songs with choreography) or
  • “Barangay Got Talent: ”

Dates of Events and Competitions:

February 11 - Elimination Rounds for Pop Sensation and Novelty Performers
February 18 - Elimination Rounds for Voices Rising and Singing Idols
February 21 - Grand finals for Singing Idols
February 22 - Rehearsals for Finalists of Pop Sensation
February 23 – Grand finals for Novelty Singers
February 24 - Grand Finals for Barangay Voices Rising
February 25 - Grand Finals for Barangay Pop Sensation

Nature of Barangay Musikahan Competitions

1) Musikahan sa Barangay mobilizes people and resources in each component Barangay in their search for the best local singing talents to compete in the following competitions;

1.1 Barangay’s Pop Sensation:

  • Solo singing of Filipino or Foreign Pop Song, either male or female performer;
  • Categories: Children (below 16 years old) and Young Adult (below 25 years old);
  • Contestants for the Elimination rounds are free to choose the songs to be performed;
  • The Performance time in the Elimination rounds should not exceed 3 minutes and 30 seconds;
  • Contestants can choose their accompaniment, either live or recorded;
  • If contestants decide on a recorded accompaniment, they must bring their own CD or DVD;
  • Six contestants for each category shall qualify in the Grand Finals, and are required to:
  • Perform two songs (one of their own choice and the other is a prescribe song) accompanied by a live band to be provided by the Festival Executive Committee
  • Rehearse with the Live Band on February 22 in the afternoon (venue to be confirmed later)

1.2 Barangay’s Novelty Performers

  • Small group of male or female interpreters of novelty songs, either in Trio, Quartet or Quintet
  • Categories: Young Adult (below 25 years old) and Senior Citizens (60 years and above);
  • Contestants for the Elimination rounds are free to choose two songs to be performed;
  • The songs to be performed in the Elimination rounds should not exceed 7 minutes;
  • Contestants can choose their accompaniment, either live or recorded;
  • If contestants decide on a recorded accompaniment, they must bring their own CD or DVD;
  • Six contestants for each category shall qualify in the Grand Finals, and are required to:
  • Perform two songs (one of their own choice and the other is a prescribe song) accompanied by a live band provided by the Festival Executive Committee
  • Rehearse with the Live Band on February 20 in the afternoon (venue to be confirmed later)

 

1.3 Barangay’s Singing Idols

  • A group (of not less than four members) rendition of a chosen medley of Filipino or Foreign classic or standard songs;
  • Categories: Mixed-Singers (Male and Female) and All-Female Singers (20 to 50 years old)
  • Participants must be elected Barangay Officials and other regular barangay functionaries
  • Songs to be performed in the Elimination rounds should not exceed 8 minutes;
  • Contestants can choose their accompaniment, either live or recorded;
  • If contestants decide on a recorded accompaniment, they must bring their own CD or DVD;
  • Six contestants for each category shall qualify in the Grand Finals, and are required to:

    a) Perform one-medley of foreign songs and one-medley of Filipino Pop or Folk songs of their own choice;
    b) Perform with either live or recorded accompaniment (if recorded, contestants should bring their own CD or DVD).

1.4 Barangay’s Voices Rising (Mixed Chorus)

  • This event is open for two categories: Urban and Rural Barangays that organize a barangay-based mixed-choir of not less than 60 and not more than 100 singers
  • The choirs must render two Pinoy Hit (folk or pop) songs freely chosen by them;
  • One of the two songs shall be performed in ACAPELA and the other song with accompaniment;
  • The song with accompaniment shall be performed with choreography or simple movements;
  • Total performance time in the Elimination rounds should not exceed 10 minutes;
  • Contestants can choose their accompaniment, either live or recorded;
  • If contestants decide on a recorded accompaniment, they must bring their own CD or DVD;
  • Four finalists for each category (Rural and Urban) shall qualify in the Grand Finals, and required to:

- Perform their freely-chosen songs (one in ACAPELA and one with either live or recorded accompaniment and choreography)

2) All performers in all events and categories must be residents or are regularly working in any establishment within the barangay and duly certified by the Punong Barangay;

3) The competing barangays shall assign their respective Event’s Coordinator who are required to attend consultative meetings and to submit the Official Entry Forms (with the list of artists for each event and category and the music pieces to be performed) on or before January 15, 2012.

4) All performers from all the competing barangays are required to participate in the Musikahan sa Tagum Opening and Closing Ceremonies and in other special events.

Evaluation      

5) The contestants in all Events and Categories are judged, according to the following standards of excellence and/or criteria:

Mastery, Technique and Tonal Quality   50%
Performance and Over-all Impact   50%
Total 100%

6) The Festival organizers have the prerogative of inviting members of the Panel of Jurors in both the Elimination Rounds and the Grand Finals. Decision of the Panel of Jurors are final and executory.
