AVENIDA MUSIKA – National Brass Band Competition

A music-avenue performance cum competition where various marching brass bands all over the country, either school based or community based, shall perform in strategic areas in three (3) contexts:

  1. Marching Brass Band in Street Parade;
  2. Symphonic Pieces in specified station; and
  3. Band Showdown at the City Hall Main Ground.

OFFICIAL GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS:

1. The competition is open to any school-based or community-based brass bands in the country.
2. Competition shall be on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning at the City Hall Main Ground, Jesus V. Ayala Avenue, Apokon, Tagum City, Philippines.

3. This shall be judged in three (3) contexts:
 
3.1 Marching Parade – City’s Main Streets
3.2 Symphonic Presentation - Amphitheatre
3.3 Showdown - City Hall Main Ground
4. Requirements for participation on this competition are the following:
 
4.1 The participants must be a Filipino citizen.
4.2 Number of participants – a minimum of 30 instrumentalists/players and a minimum of 12 movers, majorettes or flag bearers.
4.3 The group must submit names of their alternate players/performers.
4.4 Props men are not included in the number the players/performers.
5. No movers, majorettes and flag bearers will join the symphonic presentation. They will only be allowed during the marching parade and showdown.
6. Contest piece including the side piece and solo performance shall be provided by the participating teams.
7. Time allotment provided per performance in accordance to its context:
 
7.1 Marching brass band parade - 10 minutes/station
Note: There will be three (3) stations for the street performance.
7.2 Symphonic music performance –20 minutes
(compositions: 1 side piece; 1 solo performance & 1 contest piece)
7.3 Showdown performance - 15 minutes
8. In exceed of the time allotment given a 2 points shall be deducted in excess of every minute from the judge’s score sheet.
9. All performers shall be duly briefed as to where the agreed-upon indicating marks or signs shall be placed to guide them in the preparation and shall serve as warning in consideration of the performance time alloted. The signs shall be as follows: Green Flag – Start; Yellow Flag – Last 5 Minutes Warning and Red Flag – TIME IS UP/STOP. Consumed time of the participants shall be announced every after performance.
10. Any participating group who may design to have a dangerous act shall use safety precautions and equipment and shall sign waivers.
11. The official criteria for judging shall be based on the three (3) context of performance to determine the grand winners and each context shall be judged on the following basis:

13. All participating contingents are required to perform one (1) warm-up/ side piece of their own choice; and one (1) solo instrument performance with back-up before playing the symphonic contest piece, as long as the total performance time should not exceed 20 minutes. The performance of the contest piece should be within a time frame of 7 to 10 minutes.
14. There are two (2) sets of judges assigned by the Execom. One set for the Avenida Musika (Symphonic Presentation) and the Second Set for Showdown and Marching Parade. These Official Judges are well known for their achievement and stature in the field of music and performing arts preferably coming from outside of Davao Region or have gained a National Stature. Their decision shall base on the results of the competition and shall be final and irrevocable.
15. Cash prizes at stake

16. Deadline for the submission of entries, waiver forms, parent consent (all members) shall be on February 5, 2010 until 5PM only.
17. Online registration can be made through wwww.musikahansatagum.com. Interested participants may also download application forms from www.musikahansatagum.com and send it to Musikahan sa Tagum secretariat by surface mail or email (tagumcity_tourism@yahoo.com) or hand carry the filled up forms to the City Tourism Office at Beach Volleydrome, Rotary Park, Pioneer Avenue, Tagum City.
18. Official briefing will be at the Basketball Gym, Rotary Park, Tagum City, Philippines.
