HIMIG HANDOG – NATIONAL CHORAL COMPETITION 2010
A grandiose group singing competition in a concert format performed by the different choral groups in the Philippines.

OFFICIAL GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS:
A. Requirements for Participation:

1. The competition is open to all school-based or community-based choral groups in the country.
2. There four (4) categories in the competition:
 
Children’s Category Age 6 to 12 years old
Youth Category Age 13 to 16 years old
College Category Age 17 years old and above
LGU/Church Based Category Age 18 Years old and above
3. Official dates of the competition are the following:
 
February 21, 2010 6pm Children's Category
February 22, 2010 2pm Youth Category
February 23, 2010 4pm LGU/Church Based Category
February 23, 2010 7pm College Category
4. Venue of the competition will be at the Atrium of the New City Hall of Tagum.
5. The group must be composed of a minimum of 16 singers and a maximum of 25 singers, one (1) conductor and one (1) accompanist.
6. Each group shall render two (2) choral pieces: one (1) side piece and one (1) contest piece.
7. Competing groups are allowed to choose their own side piece, whether it be classic, folk or religious songs and it shall be in foreign languages, Filipino or local dialects while the contest piece shall be provided by the organizer through the assistance of the Music Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
8. The contest piece for the youth, college and LGU/Church based choir shall be in a cappella in 4 voices while the children’s category shall be either a cappella or with accompaniment, depending on the requirement of the contest piece.
9. Choral pieces sang during the 2008 and 2009 Musikahan Himig Handog Choral Competitions shall not be used as side pieces.
10. Accompanists are allowed only to play at most 3 groups of different categories, otherwise the accompanist shall be denied to participate in the choral competition.
11. Conductors are allowed only to conduct at most 2 groups of different categories, otherwise the conductor shall be denied to participate in the choral competition.
12. LGU choir members must be employed for at least one (1) year in the local government unit being represented, and must be duly endorsed by the Mayor or Governor.
13. Church choir members must be a member of the church choir being represented for at least 1 year, and must be duly endorsed by the head of the local Parish/church.
14. All singers are required to submit a photocopy of their birth certificate to the Musikahan 2010 Secretariat.
15. Conductors/conductresses shall be required to wear formal attire.

B. Time Limit of Presentation

1. Maximum performance time is 17 minutes including the entrance and exit.
2. A deduction of two (2) points will be incurred in excess of every minute or fraction of a minute.

C. Criteria for Judging

Tonal Quality (flexibility of voice, intonation & range)

Harmony (blending & balance, phrasing)
30%
Mastery (dynamics, technique, interpretation)
20%
Deportment (general appearance, discipline & uniform)
10%
Total

The allocation of points shall be based on the following:

A set of judges shall be assigned by the EXECOM. These Official Judges are well known for their achievement and stature in the field of music and performing arts preferably coming from outside of Davao Region or have gained a National Stature. Their decision shall be based on the results of the competition and shall be final and irrevocable.

E. Registration and Deadline

Online registration can be made through wwww.musikahansatagum.com. Interested participants may also download entry forms from www.musikahansatagum.com and send it to Musikahan sa Tagum Secretariat by surface mail or email to tagumcity_tourism@yahoo.com. Completely filled up forms may also be hand carried to the City Tourism Office at Beach Volleydrome, Rotary Park, Pioneer Avenue, Tagum City. Deadline for submission of entries for Himig Handog Chorale Competition (including the necessary endorsements and birth certificates) shall be on February 13, 2010.
