            Youth Category                     :           February 19, 2011, 6PM
            Adult/Open Category           :           February 19, 2011, 8PM
               
A. GENERAL RULES

  1. Each group must be composed of a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 25 singers of any gender, one (1) conductor and one (1) accompanist.
  2. Each conductor is allowed to conduct one choir per category and at most in two different categories.
  3. A choir member is only allowed to participate in one competing choir.
  4. Members per category can be all male or all female or mixed of both gender.
  5. Conductors and singers are required to wear formal attire.
  6. Maximum performance time is 12 minutes including the entrance and exit. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a deduction of two (2) points for every extra minute or a fraction of a minute.
  7. Each group will be required to submit four (4) copies of their notated side piece to the Secretariat until February 18, 2011 through surface mail or submit it directly to Tagum City Tourism Office.
  8. The use of sound recordings is not permitted.

B. COMPETITION CATEGORIES AND CHORAL PIECES

  1. This year’s Himig Handog Choral Competition has three categories:
    1. Children’s Category

    Age of members should range from 6 to 12 years old.

    1. Youth Category

    Age of members should range from 13 to 16 years old.

    1. Adult Category

    Age of members should range from 17 years old and above.

  2. Each group should render two (2) choral pieces; one (1) side piece of their own choice and one (1) contest piece provided by the organizer. Side pieces may be classic, folk or religious song in any language or dialect.
  3. The contest pieces are the following:

    Copies of the following contest pieces (with SSA and TTB arrangements) are provided to all registered participating groups.

  4. SSA and TTB arrangements of the contest pieces are also provided.
  5. Choral pieces sang during the 2009 and 2010 Musikahan Himig Handog Choral Competitions should not be used as side pieces.

C. EVALUATION

  1. The performance of each piece (side piece and contest piece) is evaluated according to the following criteria:
Tonal Quality (flexibility of voice, intonation & range)   40%
Harmony (blending & balance, phrasing)   30%
Mastery (dynamics, technique, interpretation) 20%
Deportment (general appearance, discipline & uniform)  10%
TOTAL   100%
  1. The allocation of points will be based on the following:
Contest Piece 70%
Side Piece  30%
TOTAL  100%

D. PRIZES.  The organizers provide equal cash awards to all winners in all categories, as follows:

First Prize:                 P 60,000.00 and Trophy
Second Prize:             P30,000.00 and certificate
Third Prize:                P20,000.00 and certificate
