PASIKLABAN SA MUSIKAHAN: Battle of the Bands

A Showdown of Mindanao-based Show Bands, interpreting their original compositions on diversified music genres in one evening replete with daring fray and amazing splendor, where only those who are filled with flair, endowed with competence and creativity, as well as confident on their clout of tremendous talent can truly survive

Participation:

1) This is an “All Original Music Composition Battle of the Bands Competition” that is open to all amateur and professional bands, either school or community-based;

2) The participating bands should have members with ages ranging from 15 to 30 years;

 

Requirements

3) All bands are required to submit a sample of their original compositions, before January 30, 2010 as “demo-recording” (in tape, cd, dvd, mp3, wave file, etc.) including the lyric sheets of the songs, together with their application forms;

4) The repertoire of all the qualified bands should be suitable to young audiences and the Musikahan Organizers have the right to refuse the participation of any band that perform contrary to acceptable decorum;

 

Selection:          

5) A panel of well known musicians (composers and arrangers) shall review and comment on the submitted “demo recording” and lyrics sheets; this process serves as the first screening of entries;

6) The comments of the members of the creative review panel shall be forwarded to the respective aspiring bands, to guide them in enhancing their creative works;

7) Only those Bands based in Davao City and Tagum City that received notice that they are accepted in the first screening shall qualify to join the Elimination rounds;

8) The accepted bands shall render only those approved compositions during the said Eliminations;

9) The schedules for the eliminations, as stated above, may still change but only when the bands are given timely notice;

10) All bands that were selected in the Elimination rounds are qualified the Davao Region Pasiklaban Finals;

11) The Winners in the Tagum City Pasiklaban shall represent the Davao Region in the Mindanao Musikahan Grand Finals;

12) For Bands that are based in places outside of Davao City and Davao del Norte or places where there are no elimination rounds conducted, the basis for their acceptance is only through their “demo tape” submitted to the review committee;

13) Once they received a formal notice of acceptance from the organizers, they are qualified to join the Mindanao Musikahan Grand Finals;

 

Evaluation:

14) Three sets of judges are convened to assess the performance of the competing bands: a) Set A for the Elimination Rounds; b) Set B for the Tagum CityFinals; and Set C for the Mindanao Musikahan Grand Finals;

15) The participating contingents will be judged on the following criteria:

Lyrics 20%
Musicality: composition & arrangement 30%
Quality and Mastery of Performance 40%
Popular Appeal 10%
Total 100%

The Grand Finals 

15) The Festival Artistic Director shall curate the band performance during the Davao Region Musikahan Finals and the Mindanao Musikahan Grand Finals;

16) All identified finalist are expected to arrive in Tagum City on February 22, 2011 in the evening (the latest) and shall depart on the morning of February 25, 2011. (However, they have the option to arrive earlier and/or stay in Tagum until the closing ceremonies of the Musikahan sa Tagum Festival on their own account);

17) All participating artists are required to bring and use their own individual hand-held instruments and special gadgets during the competition dates; the festival organizers will only provide a drum set, one keyboard, sets of 6 amplifiers and microphones;

18) All finalists are required to be present during the scheduled “walk-through rehearsals” in the morning (from 7:00 to 9:00 am) of February 23 (forTagum City) and February 24 (for Mindanao Grand Finals) at the designated venue;


 

Prizes

19) The winners shall are given the following cash prizes:

3RD PRIZE P10,000.00

12 Finalists on the Mindanao Grand Finals @ 1,000 each

The Festival Organizers shall assist all finalists who come from areas outside of Tagum City to secure sponsorship to cover their expenses, for the two-day stay in Tagum City during the Grand Finals.
