RONDAL-AWIT COMPETITION
An exquisite plucked-string music rendition and vocal solo competition participated by the different Rondalla ensemble of the country.

 

  1. DATE OF COMPETITION:        February 22, 2011
  2. MECHANICS

 

  • The competition is open to all Rondalla groups in the country, either school-based or community-based.
  • This competition is divided into two (2) categories:

 

  • Children whose ages range from 7 to 13 years old;
  • Adult(Youth/Adult) whose ages range from 14 years old and above

 

  • Each category requires a minimum number of 10 players or instrumentalists and maximum number of 26 members, excluding the conductor.
  • The participating Rondalla ensemble should play the following musical pieces:

 

4.1  For Children Category, three (3) music pieces:

  • Two (2) music pieces, one (1) Filipino contemporary music and one (1) Filipino Folk music of their own choice, and arranged for rondalla;

 

  • One Filipino Kundiman piece that is interpreted by a solo singer

4.2  For Open/Adult Category, three (3) music pieces:

  • One music piece (composed and/or arranged by a Filipino National artist) of their own choice;

 

  • One Contest Piece --- Cuerdas II Visayan Medley by Dr. Ramon P. Santos
  • One Filipino Kundiman piece that is interpreted by a solo singer.
  • The vocal rendition for both categories should observe the following:

 

  • The soloist may not be an instrumentalist or part of the rondalla players, but must be included in the required number of participants; and
  • The chosen song to be interpreted should be a Filipino Kundiman or a work composed by a Filipino National Artists for Music. (Singing a medley is not allowed).

 

  • The over-all performance of each group should not exceed 15 minutes. A corresponding 2-point deduction from each judge’s score-sheets is implemented for every minute in excess of the given time allotment. Time starts upon playing the first note of the first musical rendition.
  • A special award is given to the Best Conductor per category.

 

  1. EVALUATION. The performance will be judged on the following criteria:
